We currently offer a diverse range of A Level subjects, designed to provide students with combined skills and knowledge that will fully prepare them for the next exciting stage of their life. Demonstrating outstanding results, many of our students have gone on to secure places at the country’s top universities, including the University of Cambridge, The University of Manchester, the University of Bristol and University College London.
We know that studying at the College is different to school, and our fantastic teaching and support staff will help you take this next step and make the most out of your time at Cheshire College.
At Cheshire College, our A Level students have access to incredible opportunities offered through our Futures Programme, which includes seminars and support delivered through our partnership with the University of Oxford.
To be considered for entry onto our A Level courses you should have a minimum of two GCSEs at Grade 5 (B) and three GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) including English Language and Maths, plus a high average GCSE point score. There will also be individual subject requirements which will be explained at your guidance interview.
The EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) is available to students undertaking Level 3 study programmes. It is equivalent to half an A Level and is graded A* to E. It carries a maximum of 28 UCAS points and has been widely welcomed by universities, since it helps students to develop skills in thinking and independent learning. There are four different types of project that students can undertake; they may choose to write a dissertation, carry out an investigation, give a performance or create an artefact. Students will decide on a topic they are interested in, complete extensive independent research, presenting their findings in a report and presentation. The idea behind the qualification is that it will give students the opportunity to develop the skills they will need for study at university as well as being able to investigate a subject that they have a genuine passion for.
At Cheshire College, students begin the EPQ at the end of the third term in year one of their studies, finishing before Easter in year two. You will not need to decide if you would like to take this until Easter, when you are comfortable with your A Levels and are confident you can manage the additional commitment.
