Friends and family celebrate success at Cheshire College Student Awards

The students at Cheshire College – South & West’s Crewe Campus were treated to a glamorous Awards Ceremony last night, a culmination of a year’s worth of hard work, determination and talent.

Friends and family accompanied the students and were greeted with drinks and canapés prepared by Hospitality and Catering students in the Campus’s industry-standard kitchens. Asked about preparing for the evening, Hospitality and Catering student Luke (who was also the evening’s Ambassador of the Year Award) said: “As long as you come up with a plan with the team, it should all fall into place and work like clockwork. It’s all about good communication and having a great team around you.”

The evening’s compère was none other than Stuart Pollitt, of Restless Films, who read out testimonials from lecturers about each student’s achievements.

A Level student Harrison, who is studying English Language, English Literature and Spanish, and has been offered a place at Cambridge University, won the English & Languages Student of the Year Award. Harrison commented: “It’s a massive honour, and I feel quite in awe, to be honest! There are so many dedicated English and Languages students who deserved this award, so to be chosen makes me feel over-the-moon.”

Cheshire College offers A Levels exclusively at its Crewe Campus, however A Level students were far from the only people to be rewarded at the ceremony. BTEC, Higher Education, T Level, International students and more received glowing praise and accolades throughout the night.

BA (Hons) Art & Design student Claire outlined the importance of being recognised for her contributions: “I’m really proud of what I’ve done, and I’m happy the College could see the work I put in.

“My Higher Education course at College has been amazing. I can stay at home, and it’s made me feel more confident in myself. I also want to say a massive thank you to my lecturer Mike Smith; he’s been absolutely fantastic, and I can’t fault him!”

Amongst the proud family and friends was Wendy Merrick who, along with husband Rob, described how she felt seeing her son Louis take to the stage to receive his Business & Computing Student of the Year Award: “As his parents we’re really proud; Louis has done so well and worked really hard. We’re quite an entrepreneurial family, so it feels quite special that he’s won the Business Award!”

Meanwhile Monica Barnes, one of the College’s International Officers said of the International department’s nominee Jason: “Jason was born in Hong Kong but came to the UK to study BTEC Music Production Level 3 at Crewe Campus. He specialises in the French Horn, and he has always been fully committed to his course. Next academic year he will be studying a Bachelor of Music with Honours at Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. His dream is to play with a professional orchestra around the world, and as a department we truly believe that he will achieve his dream.”

Jasbir Dhesi OBE, Principal and CEO of Cheshire College said that the quality of nominees this year was stronger than ever before: “Every year we are more and more impressed with the student nominees. Our students go above and beyond to achieve success and as a College we are incredibly proud of them all.

“Our lecturers and support staff work tirelessly to make sure our students have the best chances for success, and the Student Awards prove just how highly our staff think of the students and vice versa.”

Cheshire College are now accepting applications for September 2024 for those interested in studying a diverse range of subjects, designed to provide students with combined skills and knowledge that will fully prepare them for the next exciting stage of their life.
