Cheshire College learners place third in Digital Schoolhouse’s Super Smash Bros Tournament

Level 3 Esports and Games learners at Cheshire College – South & West have debuted their skills in their first Esports tournament, placing third in the Northern finals of Digital Schoolhouse’s Super Smash Bros Tournament.

In its second year, the tournament aims to showcase the real-life industry roles that bring life to a tournament. It has coined immersive education, providing learners with the opportunity to fulfil a plethora of roles within the digital sector and enabling them to aspire to career paths they may not have otherwise considered.

Nine Level 3 Cheshire College Esports learners, under the name ‘Team Sandstorm’, travelled to Media City to compete in the tournament in March which saw them achieve third place out of more than fifty schools and colleges who entered the tournament.

The Level 3 Esports course was introduced to Cheshire College in 2021, offering an in-depth study of the sector and progression opportunities to employment across a range of roles within Esports or further study.

Lecturer at Cheshire College, Aidan Goodwin, said: “We are very proud all the learner’s achievements in reaching this stage of the competition, as well as the way in which they represented the college and worked as a team at a national industry recognised event.

“Considering this is the first year of Esports at the College, it is a major accomplishment to have taken home our first trophy only halfway into the year. We are already gearing up and getting excited for our next competition which is lined up before the summer break.”

Harry Collins, Esports Learner at Cheshire College and one of the Team Managers for ‘Team Sandstorm’, commented: “When watching the players, I saw that they were amazing and to get 3rd out of 50 schools is very impressive. If they control their nerves for next time, I am sure they can win the entire event since they have the potential. Either way it was a great experience and I know they can go far.”

Cheshire College offers a variety of Full-Time Programmes, A-Levels, T-Levels, Apprenticeships and Higher Education courses to suit the needs and learning styles of any learner. To find out more, visit www.ccsw.ac.uk.
