Cheshire College shortlisted for Innovation prize at Education Awards

Cheshire College is honoured to be nominated for the upcoming Mid Cheshire Guardian Education Awards.

In its inaugural year, the awards have been created to highlight the region’s outstanding educational accomplishments in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The awards will be hosted by Dr Hilary Jones; best known for his television appearances on GMTV, Lorraine and Good Morning Britain.

Speaking of the awards, Dr Jones commented: “The past few years have held many challenges for all of us because of the pandemic, and our leaders in education have risen above the uncertainty to carry on providing our children with quality education.”

Cheshire College received a nomination for the Innovation Award, designed to recognise schools or colleges which have excelled in the use of digital technology. When deciding on the shortlist, judges looked what positive impact the technology used had on the students, or how it benefitted the wider community.

Cheshire College’s new Digital Hub was the driving force behind the College’s nomination. Located at the Chester Campus of the College, the new building officially opened in September 2022 and is part of a £5m investment in digital skills across the region. The hub boasts state of the art equipment and has been designed specifically to boost digital skills, enhance career pathways and develop confidence, inspiring more young people than ever to progress onto higher-level courses and skilled employment.

On receiving the news that Cheshire College had been shortlisted, Deputy Principal and CEO of Cheshire College, Helen Nellist, said: “I am delighted that Cheshire College has been recognised for putting innovation at the heart of what we do. We are all committed to providing access to modern technology so that students, businesses, and communities can be empowered and gain confidence in various sectors.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the benefits our equipment and purpose-built facilities have had on our students already and we look forward to continuing to work with stakeholders to elevate the skills and work prospects of thousands of people across Cheshire.”

The results of the nominations will be revealed during the virtual awards ceremony on the 8th December 2022.
