How to apply

The Course

This course is perfect for students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. It provides a wide-ranging study of the engineering sector and is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in engineering. In addition to the skills, knowledge and techniques that underpin the study of the sector, the course gives you experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare you for employment, progression within employment or further study.

Mandatory units include:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Maths
  • Engineering Science
  • Managing a Professional Engineering Project
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines

You will also study four optional units.

We welcome an application profile that meets one of the following:

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in engineering
  • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience as determined at interview with the Course Team Leader
  • An international equivalent of the above

and:

  • GCSE grades A* to C ( 9 to 4) in maths and English

Relevant subjects: Maths, Science, electronics, Computer Systems, electrical Installation, Engineering.

You could progress to a Level 5 HND in a similar subject or a higher level apprenticeship at the College. This course will also provide you with the knowledge and skills to work at higher technician level or junior management within the electrical and electronic engineering industry including rail electrification and power generation.

Adults can enrol for FREE

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you’re aged 19+ you’ll more than likely be eligible to enrol onto an adult course for FREE.
