The CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management is one of a NEW range of courses offered by the CIPD. It is a professional qualification based on the CIPD Profession Map. The Map was launched in 2018 having been developed in collaboration with a wide range of experts working at the heart of the profession. It sets the international benchmark for the people profession and provides a strong foundation to give people professionals the confidence and capabilities to guide their decision-making, actions and behaviours. Each unit within the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management has clear linkage to the Profession Map.
The course content
To be awarded the CIPD Level 5
Associate Diploma in People Management, learners are required to successfully
complete a total of seven units. Three core units, plus three specialist units,
plus one additional specialist unit, these are:
Attendance and approach to Learning
Attendance at college
is one evening a week between 4pm and 9pm with the opportunity to book a face to
face one to one tutorial with your Tutor between 4pm – 5pm on the weeks where
teaching starts at 5pm, or online by arrangement with your Tutor.
The College has a minimum 80% attendance requirement for all courses. This is to ensure that all students receive sufficient support, guidance and knowledge to achieve their chosen qualification. It is appreciated that students who are professional practitioners and attending part time may have demands made on them by their workplace. However, the college has an expectation that students manage their own learning and attend appropriately. Any student having difficulties in attending should keep their tutor fully appraised of the situation so that they may provide appropriate support if available.
We use a variety of different teaching methods on our programmes recognising that learners have a range of preferred learning styles. However, we also work with you in a supportive, safe environment to embrace other learning styles as part of your professional development. Our primary teaching method is face to face and classroom based. Within this you will experience a variety of different approaches, including small group working and knowledge sharing groups built for flip classroom activities such as problem based/enquiry learning where identified sessions are learner-led.
You will be expected to undertake post session learning activities to prepare for the next session and record this activity on a learning log. This will be reviewed at the end of each unit to help you to reflect on achievements and future learning opportunities.
There are no exams on this qualification, all assessments are written with some practical activities.
The total qualification time is 420 hours of which 175 guided learning hours are undertaken by your attendance at college. This means that the remaining hours will be undertaken independently through your commitment and investment in personal study.

The entry requirement for the Level 5 qualification is for those working in a people practice role with evidence of a good standard of English and Mathematics at Level 2 or equivalent. Ideally students will have completed the CIPD Level 3 qualification or hold a degree level qualification in a related subject. All potential students will undertake an interview with the CIPD teaching team to assess suitability.
We expect that students should have basic IT skills. If you do not have these skills, we recommend that you gain IT skills either through your employer or by enrolling on a course here at Cheshire College before starting your qualification.
