How to apply

The Course

This course provides students with the knowledge and understanding of working with babies and children from birth to 7 years, and supports the development of the practical and technical skills needed to work with children up to the age of 5 years. Topics include child development, safeguarding and supporting activities and purposeful play and educational programmes.

The course is suitable for students who are working/volunteering in an early years setting, with children aged 0-5 years. Settings may include day nurseries, nursery schools, child minders, pre-school and children’s centres.

The course requires the student to attend a placement setting (either in a voluntary or employed capacity) for a minimum of one day per week. The course length is approximately 12 months-15 months; however, length of time on programme is to be agreed with an assessor based on the needs of the student.

The taught session aspect of the course is delivered remotely, and therefore requires access to a laptop/computer. The practical element of the course involves observations of practice that are carried out by the assessor.
