How to apply

The Course
This is a qualification that predominately looks at dementia in the elderly; however, dementia is not confined to this age group. This course will help raise awareness which may be useful when dealing with colleagues, customers or family members.
Note: the qualification doesn’t infer competence in the work role, but can be used to support the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed for those working in or towards a dementia care role.
This course should take approximately four to five months to complete. There are seven mandatory units in this qualification:
- Dementia awareness
- The person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
- Understanding the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
- Understanding equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
- Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
- Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
- Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
This is a remote learning course which will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence.
Flexible start dates and study options apply to this course.
There are no entry requirements for this course; however, a good level of English and a reasonable level of IT skills are required. There will be an initial assessment as part of the application process.
This is a knowledge-only qualification; therefore, no real work environment placement is required.

This qualification can enhance your CV when applying for employment in the health and social care industry.
Achievement of this qualification could lead on to courses such as:
- Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication in Health and Social Care
- Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.
Funding for Adult Courses
You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you are 19+ there may be funding options available to cover the cost of your course.
