How to apply

The Course

The IMI Technical Diploma is one of the most comprehensive motor vehicle learning programmes available. This internationally recognised qualification provides a standardised approach to the delivery and assessment of the underpinning knowledge requirements of NVQs/SVQs endorsed by the Motor Industry Sector Skills Council (SSC).

During this Level 2 course you will learn in real work environments to ensure you’re fully prepared to enter the automotive industry.

You’ll develop your skills and knowledge of the following:

  • Vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Removing and replacing vehicle components
  • Servicing
  • Chassis
  • Electrical systems
  • Engines
  • Transmission
  • Pre and post-vehicle inspections

All the practical skills that you will learn on this course are taught in our fully equipped workshop which mirrors a professional car dealership service area.

Typically you will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above, including a 3/2 (D/E) combination. for maths and English.
The course will give you what you need to go straight into work, progress to a Level 3 related course at the College or take up a vehicle maintenance and repair Apprenticeship. In order to be successful on this course, you will need to acquire Level 1 Motor Vehicle Maintenance skills first. If you do not have the Level 1 skills, you’ll be fast-tracked to ensure you gain them.

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.
