How to apply

The Course

Start your career with us where you will have the opportunity to study sport and exercise and gain a nationally-recognised qualification. The course units focus on introducing the science of performance, coaching and leadership qualifications. The course will also develop your performance and understanding of a number of sports and activities through practical sport. The course involves a very high proportion of practical work in both the field and laboratory. Such activity provides reference to your work and will encourage you to develop skills of sports performance, enquiry, analysis, management and creativity as well as interpersonal skills which will be important in your work when you are on work placement.

The course prepares young people for careers in the sports/outdoor sector. The course will also develop your performance and understanding of a number of sports and activities through practical sport.

The course covers the following units:

  • Fitness for Sport and Exercise
  • Practical Sports Performance
  • Mandatory unit: Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Performance
  • Leading Sports Activities
  • Nutrition

As part of your study programme, you will take part in a work placement to improve your skills and gain valuable experience in the industry.

Typically you will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above, including a 3/2 (D/E) combination for maths and English.
Students who are successful have the option of going on to complete the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport. Alternatively, the qualification will provide opportunities to gain employment in hotel/health and fitness centres, fitness clubs, fitness instruction, sports centres or coaching.

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Funding for Adult Courses
