This course is ideal for students who want to continue their education through applied learning at a higher level. The Mechanical Engineering for England BTEC HND provides an in-depth and practical study of the mechanical engineering sector and is designed for those who wish to progress into a career in engineering or related industries.
The course develops the core knowledge, skills and techniques that underpin the discipline of mechanical engineering. It explores key areas such as engineering design, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, advanced manufacturing and materials. Students will also gain experience of applying theoretical concepts to real-world engineering problems and enhancing both technical understanding and professional competence.
By the end of the Mechanical Engineering HND, students will have a strong grasp of the principles within their specialist field and the ability to apply them across a range of industrial contexts. This qualification supports progression into employment at a technical or managerial level or onto further study such as a full engineering degree.
The HND is available for students who wish to progress from a HNC at Cheshire College. If you have obtained your HNC from another institution or have had a gap in your studies your application will be reviewed to ensure you have previously undertaken a combination of units that is complimentary to our HND programme.
We welcome an application profile that meets one of the following:
A BTEC Level 3 qualification in engineering
A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject
Other related Level 3 qualifications
An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
Related work experience as determined at interview with the Course Team Leader
An international equivalent of the above
and:
GCSE grades A* to C ( 9 to 4) in maths and English
Relevant subjects: Maths, Science, electronics, Computer Systems, electrical Installation, Engineering.
You could progress into employment in the engineering industry or undertake further study. The Mechanical Engineering HND is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements for a range of relevant engineering and technology-based degree programmes, for example:
BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering
BEng (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering
BSc (Hons) in Engineering Technology
BEng (Hons) in Mechatronics
BEng (Hons) in Automotive Engineering
